MANAGING WORKPLACE NEGATIVITY

Negativity in the workplace should be taken seriously because it can jeopardize your company's success. Employee morale suffers as a result, and more time and energy is spent on unproductive negativity rather than productive work. Your employees' willingness to take on new roles and responsibilities may suffer, and their creativity and innovative capability may suffer as a result. ( Bagga G, 2013)

 

SIGNS OF NEGATIVITY IN THE WORKPLACE

-A loss of confidence or autonomy (Harpaz I, 2001)

-Burned out due to excessive work or stringent deadlines

 -Misunderstood or unheard in the workplace

-Unappreciated, unrecognized, or underpaid

-Unable to manage issues with peers

HOW TO OVERCOME NEGATIVITY IN WORK PLACE

1.      Identify the cause:

The key to recognizing the source of workplace negativity is observation. Observe how employees interact with one another to get a sense of how they feel about the company. Make an effort to get consistent feedback from your workers.

 

2.      Create positive work culture

To avoid negativity at work, it's critical to cultivate a positive culture. A positive work culture minimizes stress and increases employee happiness and productivity. (Magotra I, 2017)

*Incentives can be used to motivate teams.

 

3.      Encourage open communication

Pay attention to your employees' thoughts and opinions to guarantee that they feel at ease in their workplace.

           Evaluate the current communication strategy in your organization

4.      Trust your employees

Create a sense of trust among and among your personnel. It's easy to see when your company doesn't trust its personnel.

*Pay attention to the needs of your personnel.

 

5. Treat  employees equally

Favoritism can lead to a loss of motivation and discontent among your staff. Employee loyalty suffers as a result, and a negative attitude toward the company develops.

10.  Lend a non-judgmental ear

Employees that appear depressed or unmotivated at work should be communicated.

 Pay serious attention to what they have to say.

Ask questions to figure out what's causing their bad behavior.

Suggestions for dealing with negativity should be made, and employees should be encouraged to have a good attitude at work.

Workplace negativity directly tolerate the employees within the organization and make unproductive and inefficient and lead to less profitability in the firm so applying these above steps in the firm will reduce the negativity in workplace.

  2. Timely topic. Regardless of the status of the pandemic, negativity became a problem in most of the organization. HR should identify the points of negativity and make better plan to motivate the employees at the first stage.Negativity can be defined as an expression of criticism or pessimism about something. Workplace negativity can be a big roadblock for the employees. it is very important to deal with negativity at its earliest stage because its impacts decrease with its awareness (Bhasin, 2019.

Workplace negativity arise when the employees being deprived of what they should get. lack of Medical care, inadequate wages, lack of basic facilities, favourism are some of the factors that employees tend to behave negatively. hence, the management always must treat everyone equally and fairly. the HR should appoint/recruit right people for right places
